5 Ways to Keep Cool in the Miami Beach Heat

Let’s face it — summer in Miami Beach isn’t just hot, it’s heat advisory hot. Whether you’re walking the Art Deco district, running errands, or knocking on doors like me, staying cool isn’t just about comfort — it’s about health and safety. Here are five smart (and very Miami Beach) ways to beat the heat:

☀️ 1. Time Your Outdoor Adventures Wisely

Try to schedule walks, errands, or beach trips before 11 a.m. or after 5 p.m. Midday sun in the summer can push the feels like temperature over 105°F. Plus, who doesn’t love a golden hour beach stroll?

Campaign Connection: I’m scheduling my door-to-door visits in the cooler hours too — because no one wants to talk policy while melting.

💧 2. Hydrate Like It’s Your Job

Water is your best friend in the heat. Keep a reusable water bottle handy and sip often — even before you feel thirsty. Electrolyte packets or a splash of lemon can make it more refreshing without loading up on sugar.

Hot Tip: If I’m elected, I’ll advocate for more public water refill stations so residents and visitors alike can stay hydrated without relying on pricey bottled drinks.

🌴 3. Find Shade and Make Shade

Our city’s beautiful tree canopy is a natural cooling solution. Seek out shady sidewalks and parks — and let’s plant more trees to expand our urban oasis. In addition, the city has three designated Cooling Centers, at each of the public libraries: South Shore (Alton Road and 1st Street), Main Regional (Collins Avenue and 22nd), and North Shore (Collins Avenue and 75th). For a map of cooling centers, click here.

Civic Note: Extreme heat isn’t just uncomfortable, it’s a public health issue. More green spaces and cooling centers are a smart investment in our future.

👒 4. Dress Light, Think Bright

Loose-fitting, light-colored clothing made of natural fabrics like cotton or linen will help you stay cool. Bonus points for wide-brimmed hats and a little SPF.

Personal Style Disclosure: Yes, you may spot me on the campaign trail rocking a straw hat and a linen shirt. Function meets fashion!

🏖️ 5. Embrace the Miami Beach Way — Siesta When You Can

Our city has always been a blend of cultures, many of which take an afternoon break when it’s hottest. If your schedule allows, follow their lead. A little rest, even 20 minutes, can help your body regulate and recharge.

Big Picture: As our summers get hotter, we need a city that plans ahead — from cooling centers to better heat emergency planning. I’m ready to help lead that charge.

Bottom Line:

Miami Beach is paradise — but we’ve got to be smart about the rising heat. Whether you’re out enjoying the outdoors, at the beach, or heading to a community meeting, keep these tips in mind. And if you see me out there on the campaign trail, say hi — I might even have a cold bottle of water with your name on it.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay active — we’ve got a city to protect.
